Congressional Marijuana Conversation Panel

Recently, NORML moderated a Facebook Congressional Conversation on marijuana law reform with Representatives Beto O’Rourke of Texas, Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, Tom Garrett of Virginia, and Justin Amash of Michigan. This conversation was moderated by the Executive Director of Texas NORML, Jax Finkel.

We discussed a wide range of issues including the pending bipartisan legislation to remove cannabis from the controlled substance list, access to medical marijuana, racial injustice, and pending bipartisan legislation to end arbitrary license suspensions for minor marijuana possession, the Better Drive Act.

The ongoing enforcement of cannabis prohibition financially burdens taxpayers, encroaches upon civil liberties, engenders disrespect for the law, impedes legitimate scientific research into the plant’s medicinal and therapeutic properties, and disproportionately impacts communities of color. Only when lawmakers speak honestly about the effects of prohibition and the senseless burdens it imposes on our communities will we be able to win substantial reform.

Your support helps ensure marijuana consumers are represented in the political process and powers our movement to end prohibition once and for all.

Together, we WILL legalize marijuana in Texas.
